Tampa Bay sees some of the most lightning in the country. A layered surge-protection system helps shield your panel, HVAC, appliances, and electronics from the voltage spikes that damage unprotected homes.
Protection works best in layers — at the panel and at your most sensitive devices. We quote your exact scope after a quick assessment.
Panel-Mounted
A Type 2 device installed at your service panel — the first line of defense against large surges entering from the grid.
Point-of-Use
Added protection at outlets for sensitive electronics, catching the smaller surges that start inside the home.
Whole-Home Coverage
Together these layers help guard everything downstream of the panel — not just one plugged-in device.
Your exact scope depends on your panel, grounding, and which devices you want protected. Estimates are always free.
Why It Matters
Why homeowners add surge protection
Lightning capital
Tampa Bay's storm frequency makes surges a question of when, not if. A layered system is ready before the next storm rolls through.
Protects big-ticket systems
Your HVAC, pool pump, and major appliances are the costliest things in your home to replace after a spike.
Covers the whole home
A single power strip only guards what's plugged into it. Panel-level protection covers your entire electrical system.
Device-backed
Quality surge devices carry manufacturer warranties — ask us about the current coverage on the units we install.
How It Works
How layered protection works
No single device catches everything. Two layers working together cover far more than either one alone.
Layer 1 · At the panel
Panel-mounted Type 2 device
Clamps the large surges that enter your home from the grid — including spikes from nearby lightning and utility switching — before they spread through your wiring.
Layer 2 · At the outlet
Point-of-use protectors
Guard sensitive electronics — TVs, computers, smart-home gear — from the smaller surges that originate inside the home and slip past the panel.
What's At Risk
What a surge can take out
HVAC & heat pump
Refrigerator & appliances
Pool equipment
Smart-home hubs
TVs & computers
LED lighting
EV charger
Well pump
Our Process
Three straightforward steps
1 · Inspect
We check your panel and grounding — the foundation any surge device relies on to work properly.
2 · Install at the panel
We fit the Type 2 surge device at your service panel — your whole-home first line of defense.
3 · Add point-of-use
We add protection at the outlets and devices where it matters most to you.
Common Questions
Surge protection FAQ
Doesn't a power strip already protect me?
Only partly. A surge strip protects just what's plugged into it and wears out over time. Whole-home protection adds a first layer at the panel that covers your entire system.
Will this stop a direct lightning strike?
No device can fully stop a direct strike — don't trust anyone who claims otherwise. What layered protection does is greatly reduce damage from the far more common grid surges and nearby strikes.
Does my grounding matter?
Yes — surge protection relies on a solid ground to safely divert energy. We inspect your grounding first and address any issues before installing.
What does it protect?
Everything downstream of your panel — HVAC, appliances, pool equipment, smart-home gear, TVs, computers, LED lighting, EV chargers, and more.
